well if Ian would repsond to the list then we would know if we have
agreement. and If Ian will not agree it would be appreciated if he can
provide a clear technical reason for not doing so.

It is also acceptable (as far as I'm concerned) to handle this refinement via a separate bug. Thus, if there are no objections, I will list this as one of the acceptable alternatives for implementing the decision.
