I tried under Opera 10.0 on Mac and can't reproduce. I looked at http://dev.w3.org/2009/dap/contacts/Overview.html#contacts-interface which has italics in <pre> and it worked fine. I also loaded your test case both as as data URI below and from file and all I got was regular looking stuff. Any user stylesheet?
