Re: minor technical comment on 2.1.3 Syntax of variables

I heard justifications "way back when" about matching certain  
programming language conventions, possibly even allowing direct  
substitution of symbols.

I don't know what the current justifications are, but it's not a  
difficult extension for the parser, and might make some people happy.
