ACTION-678: Fwd: Dom visiting the TAG

TAG members:

The attached is a note from Robin who, per ACTION-678, has been in touch
with Dominique Hazael-Massieux regarding Dom's possible participation in
our upcoming F2F. I've also attached my response.

I'd appreciate a quick reading from other TAG members as to whether you'd
like to schedule a session with Dom regarding security concerns. The
advantage I see is that it's a good opportunity to draw on Dom's expertise
in person; if there's a downside, it's that the TAG considered working on
security several times, even at one point identified it as a high priority,
and generally in the end we've decided that others outside the TAG have
more expertise in the area than we do. What's your preference regaarding a
F2F slot on this? If there are other specific sessions where you feel it
would be helpful to have Dom join us, please let me know that too.

Thank you.

Noah

Hi Noah,

as discussed on the call yesterday I believe that the TAG could benefit
greatly from the opportunity of being in Dom's area to invite him (copied)
over to talk with us.

The topic that Dom has mentioned being interested in is that of trusted web
applications/permissions/the web security model. As he says, it is clearly
cross-group, technical, and fundamental to the way that Web clients work.
The current model is cracking at the seams, and this could be a candidate
for the TAG to form a task force to help coordinate work in this area. I
think that it would be well-worth discussing this issue; I personally
consider it the one big problem in Web standards today.

Additionally, I believe that Dom may be able to join us for other sessions
as soon as there is an agenda for him to peruse.

That makes sense to me, but I'll need to check with the rest of the TAG. I
think we've felt for awhile that security should in principle be near the
top of the list for concerns, but it's also an area where you want real
experts, and preferably multiple experts, before you go to far, and there's
pretty much nobody on the TAG who would qualify right now. We've repeatedly
dabbled at framing work in security, and so far we've always put it down in
favor of leaving it to those who are experts.

Nonetheless, I think it makes sense to have Dom come for a session where we
can discuss areas of concern, but I first want to ask other TAG members
whether they agree that it's the right use of time.

Regrading other sessions: are there particular ones where you feel that
Dom's expertise would be a good fit? If so, I'll keep that in mind as I
schedule things.

Thank you.

Noah
