Jim,

I have no objections at all to your points. All your examples except the vehicle are about information objects. They are indeed distinct
from their physical carriers, and questions on both levels arise as you describe. In previous messages, I made ther point that there is a 
difference between physical objects and information objects. With respect to the vehicle example, it is not clear to me what use case would 
assume a common idea of provenance in the sense we discuss here for "your car" regardless the actual car.

I fully support your last phrase! :) , for the relationship of information objects to their carriers, and for the aboutness of measurement 
data to the measured physical things, but better not to the relation of a whole to its parts.
