"HTML Versioning and DOCTYPEs" http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/4 "Should spec discourage use of 'legacy' doctypes?" http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/84 The current status for these issues: http://dev.w3.org/html5/status/issue-status.html#ISSUE-004 http://dev.w3.org/html5/status/issue-status.html#ISSUE-084 - We have a Working Group draft that does not have any explicit versioning mechanism. - We have a Change Proposal to allow a greatly extended doctype syntax, including an allowance for versioning: <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2010Jan/0015.html> - We have a Counter-Proposal that suggest no change to the doctype for versioning: <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2010Feb/0718.html> At this time the Chairs would also like to solicit alternate Change Proposals, in case anyone would like to advocate a different change than the specific ones in any of the existing Change Proposal. Note: Larry has asked for time to revise his Change Proposal. In addition, the TAG would like to provide input on this issue, and has asked to have until their March 26th face-to-face meeting to do so. Revisions to any of the already-submitted proposals during the alternate proposal period are welcome and encouraged. We have also made the period for alternate proposals slightly longer than the customary month, to ensure that the TAG has a chance to provide their input. Otherwise, if no additional alternate proposals are received by March 30rd, 2010, we will proceed to a decision based on the currently submitted Change Proposals. Regards, Maciej
