As far as I know, calendar applications are aware of timezones. You
usually have an option to change the default timezone. Which means that
if you set an event for New Year's Eve in New York while you are in
Taipei and forget to change the timezone it might indeed not fire at the
right time but if you set the timezone accordingly, it should just work.
