Problem statement / use cases

• Authors sometimes need to provide sample code from programming languages where whitespace characters will not receive the typical treatment of no display
• There is no intrinsic way for UAs to distinguish between a block of code for literal display from code intended by the author for usual whitespace treatment

Proposed solutions

Include a blockcode element with the recommended CSS properties:

• white-space: pre
• display: block
