DRM-1

Use Case
A publisher of premium content that is available to consume off-line (i.e., downloaded to the target machine for viewing when the Internet is not available) wishes to ensure the content is not copied and viewed on an unauthorized machine. The publisher employs a tool to encrypt the content for viewing on a given machine or a group of related machines.
Requirement(s)
1) A methodology to authorize a machine or group of machines before premium content can be downloaded locally onto machine.
2) Encryption mechanism for content for a given authorized machine or machine group.
3) Viewing the content is not possible without decryption on authorized machine.

This requires specification to encrypt various content types, i.e., HTML5, EPUB, video content. This also requires support from DRM specifications. Tools to perform the required encryption and handle the DRM authorization aspects need to be in place for each type of content.

Use Case
The user who wishes to view premium, encrypted content off-line opens a Content Reader capable of handling appropriate security. The secure content reader validates that the user’s machine is authorized to use the content, decrypts the content and makes it available for viewing.
Requirement(s)
1) Encrypted content has been downloaded and stored locally on the user’s machine.
2) A secure content viewer is available on the machine that can validate that the user’s machine is authorized to consume the content (and do so off-line).
3) The secure content viewer is capable of decrypting the content to present it to the user.
