Next Steps / Action Items (Draft)

We confirmed that the key objective of this BG is to provide broadcasters from around the world with a forum to discover common characteristics in their use cases for broadcasting services using web technologies and the Web, which global web standards should satisfy. To achieve this objective, the following next steps and action items have been suggested and approved by the f2f meeting attendees.

  • Involve more international broadcasters
    • We identified the following countries as potential sources for additional broadcaster members and will reach out to them.
      • S. America
        • Brazil (JC, Vagner, Yosuke)
      • Asia
        • Korea (W3C Korean Office, Doung-Young(LG), Yosuke)
        • China (W3C China Host, Alan, Yosuke)
        • India (W3C Indian Office, Yosuke)
      • Continental Europe
        • France (JC, Bernard, Yosuke)
  • Begin conversations with ATSC and HbbTV
    • We learned ATSC has adopted HTML5 as its UI technology for ATSC3.0 and is now developing the necessary requirements. We also learned HbbTV is doing the same with its HbbTV2.0. IPTVF-J is also in the same situation with its Hybridcast v2.0. They recently published Hybridcast v1.0, the first example of broadcasting standards employing HTML5.
    • This is clearly a good time for these parties to gather and discuss common characteristics of their use cases or requirements.
    • We agreed that we should reach out to these SDOs.
      • ATSC (Skip)
      • IPTVF-J (Matsumura-san)
      • HbbTV/OIPF (Steven, JC)
  • Improve interaction with the Web and TV IG
    • Design a better interface between the BG and IG (Yosuke will create a draft.)

A light breakfast will be served in the conference room from 9:00. Lunch will also be served and light refreshments will be provided during the scheduled breaks.
