Body

Dear (SDO name) colleagues,

I am writing on behalf of the W3C Web and Broadcasting Business Group. We are a group committed to studying and clarifying the influence of Open Web Platform on the professional world of broadcasting, and to help stakeholders within the broadcasting industry build a practical understanding on the standardization processes in W3C.

The W3C Web and Broadcasting Business Group (BG) is sending this survey to ask for your input to help develop a repository for use cases of multi-screen scenarios. We have created an initial repository containing 19 use cases divided into nine packages, which was first published as a public draft on April 8, 2013 under the name of "Repository of Existing Business-Level Use Cases for TVs In Tandem With Other Screens that Enrich Programs and Commercials via the Web." [1] The use cases stored here have been collected and categorized to serve as initial entries into an evolving repository for use cases from around the world which we hope will foster development and technical standardization in this field. The BG understands that other SDOs are gathering similar use cases, and it would be highly beneficial for all stakeholders in this area to share and merge use cases into a single repository.

Please reply to this e-mail with your answers in the enclosed table. You may include your answers in the table itself or scan the table as an enclosure. Just use whatever is most convenient.

Please use the following values under the "Existing" column:

  • W = The indicated use case exists and is well-received in the countries and regions which have adopted your DTV/HybridTV/SmartTV-related standards.
  • E = The indicated use case exists but is not well-received in the countries and regions which have adopted your DTV/HybridTV/SmartTV-related standards.
  • N (or blank) = The indicated use case doesn't exist in the countries and regions which have adopted your DTV/HybridTV/SmartTV-related standards.

Feel free to insert additional rows if you would like to contribute your use cases to the repository. A bigger collection of use cases brings everyone benefits.

If you have any questions concerning this repository or any additional issues such as liaison relationships, participation in the Web and Broadcasting BG activity, or information on any other BG efforts, feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Yosuke Funahashi, chair Web and Broadcasting Business Group
