Rate

A rate is a ratio representing the speed at which a measurement changes.


Parts of a rate

Numerator

The numerator of a rate must be of the same quantity as the measurement that is changing. Therefore, a velocity is represented as <math>velocity = \frac{meters}{second}.</math> , because meters is a quantity of distance, and the distance is the measurement that is changing.

Denominator

The denominator of a rate must be a time quantity.
