Minutes from the Pisa Face to Face

The Ubiquitous Web Applications Working Group held a two day face to face meeting on 24-25 July 2008 in Pisa, Italy, hosted by the HIIS Laboratory of the Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie dell'Informazione. The meeting was very effective and covered a wide range of topics, see the minutes for details, including presentations on migratory user interfaces, and the GSMA Access project. Our next face to face will be in October as part of the W3C Technical Plenary in Mandelieu, France.

Meeting on Model-based design

On 23 July 2008, the Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie dell'Informazione, hosted a one day meeting in Pisa, Italy on model-based design. The participants came from a range of organizations including Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, ISTI, JustSystems, Siemens and Telefónica de España. The meeting ended with a concensus on moving forward on preparing a draft charter for a W3C Incubator Group as a means to advise W3C on the role of model-based design for authoring Web applications. Personalization and the Delivery Context

The UWA working group has recently started work on mechanisms to support personalization of Web applications through exposing personal preferences as part of the delivery context. This will allow content developers to provide an enhanced user experience for people based upon their individual needs. This work is being led by Richard Schwerdtfeger (IBM) and Andy Heath (The Open University). A Working Group Note is planned on use cases and requirements.

Updated Working Draft for Delivery Context Ontology

The UWA Working Group published an updated Working Draft for the Delivery Context Ontology on 15 April 2008. The ontology defines a vocabulary for a wide range of primarily mobile device properties. We are now working on extending the ontology to cover user preferences and personalization, and a primer that provides an introduction to the ontology and how it relates to client and server-side APIs.

Seoul Face to Face Meeting 4,6 March 2008

Candidate Recommendation for DCCI

The Delivery Context Client Interfaces (DCCI) was published as a W3C Candidate Recommendation on 21 December 2007. It provides a framework for Web pages to access static and dynamic device properties, for example, the screen size and orientation, battery level and signal strength, according to the formal model defined by the Delivery Context Ontology.

First public Working Draft for Delivery Context Ontology

The first public Working Draft for the Delivery Context Ontology was published on 21 December 2007. The ontology provides a formal model of the characteristics of the environment in which devices interact with the Web, and can be used to support adaptation at any point in the delivery chain.

UWA meeting at W3C Technical Plenary

The UWA working group met face to face at the W3C combined Technical Plenary and Advisory Committee Meeting which was held at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge Mass. You can view a summary of the UWA meeting which started on Thursday afternoon on the 8th November and finished at lunchtime on Saturday 10th November. Our next face to face is planned for the first week in March 2008 in Seoul and will be hosted by ETRI.
