Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 reaches stability

The document is the result of lots of discussions between experienced mobile Web stakeholders carried in the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group. It has been reviewed by W3C Members and the community at large in various occasions. The best practices defined in the document are not just another set of best practices. They reflect a carefully built consensus on best practices deemed essential to the development of content for the Mobile Web.

The Best Practices primarily address the authoring and delivery of Mobile Web pages. The Working Group felt that another version was needed that targets the growing market of Mobile Web Applications. It started working on this new set of best practices, released as a First Public Working Draft today under the (somehow not very surprising) title of Mobile Web Application Best Practices. Your feedback is more than welcome!

XHTML Basic 1.1 brings harmony

XHTML Basic 1.1 is the preferred format specification of the Mobile Web Best Practices. What's probably even more important, it marks the full convergence with XHTML MP 1.2, developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA).

Relax, the mobileOK Checker is here to help

Out of the Mobile Web Best Practices, the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group extracted the best practices that could be automatically checked and developed the mobileOK Checker as an open source Java library. The Checker is a companion tool that helps assert that a Web page follows some of the best practices.

It is still in beta for the time being, but we are actively working on fixing the remaining bugs and are getting close to release a version 1.0. You may give it a try through the online beta version of the W3C mobileOK Basic Checker and report bugs to the public-mobileok-checker@w3.org public mailing-list.
