Functions of a Keyboard

insert text navigation direct commands (shortcut keys) selection activation/deactivation modifier keys for other commands


Use Cases for Keyboard

Connected cars will not have all accessibility functions

Speech

  • speech on the mobile phone is lacking command and control because keyboard is only used for insert text
  • multi modal - touch and speech are aware of each other
  • unaware multimodal where you can use two modes at the same time - e.g. touch-paste

  • android has a physical keyboard, IRC wrote an emulator for Android phones without a keyboard, that writes that function
  • the User Agent has to be neutral to all commands

  • Devices that lack modifier keys
