WAI-TIES Update #1

This update provides information on activities of the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), for the "Web Accessibility Initiative: Training, Implementation, Education and Support" (WAI-TIES) Project in Europe.

1. Comments invited on updated "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0" Working Draft

On 24 June 2003 the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Working Group published an updated Working Draft of "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0". When completed, this will provide advanced guidance on how to make content on Web sites accessible. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 remains the stable and referenceable WAI guideline for Web site accessibility in the meantime. The Working Group encourages you to comment:

2. New links welcome on updated "Policies Relating to Web Accessibility"

The Education and Outreach Working Group has updated the reference page "Policies Relating to Web Accessibility", which list policies relating to Web accessibility in different countries. The Working Group welcomes additional links at the "updates" page below:

3. Updated "Online Overview of Web Accessibility Initiative" available

The Education and Outreach Working Group has updated the "Online Overview of the Web Accessibility Initiative", a set of online slides which provide an overview of the activities of W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative and provide a useful introduction and reference on Web accessibility:

4. "Translating WAI Documents" resource page available

The Education and Outreach Working Group has published a WAI resource page which provides information regarding translation of WAI documents, including how to coordinate translations with W3C/WAI and priorities for translating WAI documents. If you are aware of existing translations of WAI documents not already listed on the W3C translations page, please let us know:

5. Upcoming WAI meetings

In July 2003 the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Working Group is meeting in Venice; and the Education and Outreach Working Group (EOWG) is meeting in California. EOWG is tentatively planning a Working Group meeting and best practices training exchange in Dublin 3 - 5 September 2003.

6. Two additional WAI-DA Updates available online

WAI-DA Updates #4 and #5 (updates on information from the WAI Design for All Project) are available online. These include WAI resources published from between October 2002 and June 2003:

The WAI-TIES Update is a periodic electronic mailing containing information relating to Web accessibility in Europe, with distribution through existing mailing lists.
