[draft] Checklists - Idea for adding interaction

(and hopefully simplifying and shortening the form a bit)

Guideline 1 - Perceivable.
Ensure that all intended function and information can be presented in form(s) that can be perceived by any user - except those aspects that cannot be expressed in words.

Checkpoint 1.1
For all non-text content that can be expressed in words, provide a text equivalent of the function or information the non-text content was intended to convey.

Success Criterion 1.1.1.1
Non-text content that can be expressed in words has a text-equivalent explicitly associated with it. (Minimum Level)

Techniques for SC 1.1.1.1

HTML Techniques

Not Used
Used
Other (used, but available techniques are not applied)

Section 1: If IMG elements are not used

IMG elements are not used in the content.

Section 2: If IMG elements are used

Every IMG element that can be expressed in words has a text-equivalent explicitly associated with it via the alt attribute.
Technique W

AND

The value of the alt attribute for spacer images is " " (null alt-text).
Technique X

AND

The value of the alt attribute for graphs, charts, and maps, follows the guidelines from the National Braille Association.
Technique Y

Note: Ideally, marking these three statements as true would automatically trigger a "true" value below.

Issue: How would an author who does not use spacer images deal with this one? This gets into the qustion about what to do with additional techniques and may become more clear as we refine the techniques content.

Section 3: Other techniques

If IMG Elements are used, but the available techniques do not apply, one of the following must be true in order for content to meet this success criterion:

  • Technique Z

  • (Note: Checking this box may require details on the techniques employed in the notes field below as well as some documentation about who reviewed/approved its use. Checking this box may also trigger the appearance of an additional notes field inserted here.)

Non-text content embedded with the IMG Element that can be
expressed in words has a text equivelant explicitly associated with it.

Note: Sections 1, 2 or 3 above must be complete before this
question can answered. (needs wording help)

Question(s): Should additional techniques go here? Is it possible to sort required techniques by required vs. additional? How does an additional technique that would be required for some types of content but not for others get referenced?

Success Criterion 1.1.1.2
non-text content that can not be expressed in words has a descriptive label provided as its text-equivalent. (Minimum Level)

  • The text equivalent should fulfill the same function as the author intended for the non-text content (i.e. it presents all of the intended information and/or achieves the same function of the non-text content).

Techniques for SC 1.1.1.2

HTML Techniques
true
false
...
Checkpoint 1.1 conformance:

Pass (all of the above are true)

Fail (one or more of the above is not true)
