Here's the original announcement of the wp2x software:

I've finished my first pass at a WP 5.1 to X converter based on
Raymond Chen (now <raymondc@microsoft.com>)'s WP 4.2 version that I
found on SIMTEL.
I don't pretend that this is complete, or debugged, or even
compilable on anything other than what I use: Sparc II+4.1.3+gcc 2.4.5.
I resisted the temptation to code in G++.
Raymond used some rudamentary memory allocating involving
essentially a homebrewed sbrk(2). Ick. I left that code as it was, but
used malloc/alloca whenever I wrote new code. There is also a lot of
dead code and general cruft that I have not removed.
Man page? Sorry... not yet.
Everything *is* CVS'ed though, so patches are more than welcome.
The config that I have is more oriented towards publishing of an
electronic journal than general use, but you can modify that if you
like.
Please let me know if you grab a copy of this, as I'd like to keep
track of who is using it so I can send you patches.

Pretty primitive, my config has a hard code style, but unlike
"IntelliTag" it doesn't cost $600, and you get source.
Patches, new configs, etc. much accepted and appreciated.
WP 6.0 support would be nice, but WP didn't have a technical
reference for the 6.0 tags last time I asked. "Time to market
advantage for select customers" I suppose.
