It should not be necessary to rewrite most information handling software whena new naming scheme is produced, in that gateways can be set up between old methods and the new. For example, WWW clients can now be configured to use HTTP to go to a gateway for any new proctol which is designed.
The only requirement here is that there should be a common simple model of an object and a name. Obviously there must be some way of encoding the character set or binary representation used in the new scheme.
