Web Services Metadata Exchange (WS-MetadataExchange) Submission request to W3C

Submitted Materials

We, W3C Members CA, Hitachi, IBM, Layer 7, Microsoft, Progress Software, Red Hat, SAP, Software AG, TIBCO, WSO2 and Xerox - hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following documents attached hereto:

  1. WS-MetadataExchange

which is referred to as "the Submission". We request the Submission be known as the WS-MetadataExchange Submission.

Abstract

WS-MetadataExchange defines how metadata can be treated as WS-Transfer resources for retrieval purposes, how metadata can be embedded in Web service endpoint references, and how Web service endpoints can optionally support a request-response interaction for the retrieval of metadata.

Copyrights

CA

CA hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any CA copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, CA grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. CA further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

IBM Corp.

IBM hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any IBM copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, IBM grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. IBM further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

Microsoft Corp.

Microsoft hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any Microsoft copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, Microsoft grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. Microsoft further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

SAP AG

SAP AG hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any SAP AG copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, SAP AG grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. SAP AG further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C. 

Software AG

Software AG hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any Software AG copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, Software AG grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. Software AG further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Sun Microsystems hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any Sun Microsystems copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, Sun Microsystems grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. Sun Microsystems further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Hitachi

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

IBM Corp.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Layer 7

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Microsoft Corp.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Oracle Corp.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses for any essential claims in patents or patent applications owned by BEA Systems, Inc at the time of its acquisition by Oracle, according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Progress Software

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Red Hat, Inc.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

Suggested action

We suggest that the consortium make this submission available for consideration in charter discussions for a possible Recommendation-track working group.
