Submission request to W3C

We, Netscape Communications Corporation, hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification comprising the document(s) linked below:
  1. Framework Document
  2. Implementation of OPS Over HTTP
  3. Standard Practices for OPS Systems

which collectively are referred to as "the Submission". We request the Submission be known as the Open Profiling Specification (OPS) submission.

Abstract

This specification proposes a means for the exchange of profile information. For the purposes of OPS, we define profile information as any feature and corresponding values of an end user or service provider. The specification provides for the trusted communication (mediated by computer software and communication systems) 1) between people and services, 2) between services mediated by people, and 3) between people.

The first document, "Proposal for an Open Profiling Standard," covers the framework for profile exchange, including data structure and operational primitives. A second document, "Implementation of OPS Over HTTP," covers implementation of the Open Profiling Standard (OPS) over the standard web protocol, HTTP. The third document,. "Standard Practices for OPS Systems", discusses required practices in OPS-compliant systems for permissions management, standard attributes, and transaction logging.
