Optimizing Web Access for Weak Connectivity YOSHIDA Hideki Communication and Information Systems Research Laboratories Research and Development Center Toshiba Corporation March 13, 1998. Low speed, unreliability and cost of communication are the major problems of mobile web access. Circumstances where communication is totally unavailable should also be considered. We have devised a proxy-based system to optimize the communication via weak connectivity and to support caching and hoarding contents for future access. In particular, we have added priority mechanism to MUX protocol to control the order of transfer of multiplexed HTTP streams over one TCP connection. Caching and hoarding are also being implemented in a client-transparent way. We would like to standardize and coordinate these methods with other protocols in our activity at W3C.
