Introduction of recent information system in a car In recent years, the vehicle information equipment such as the navigation system becomes more and more popular in Japan. At the beginning a navigation system was a stand alone system. However, various communication functions have been added to the navigation system, for example, GPS for the vehicle positioning, VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) for the traffic information reception, and the information service via FM multiple broadcasting or cellular telephone for various information. In the near future, Electronic Toll Collection System and Emergency Call System will be put to practical use in Japan. In this workshop we will introduce Toyota's navigation equipments, VICS,and the information service system called "MONET" which started at the end of last year. Then we will touch, from user's view point, some of the key points for the usefulness of the Web information in a car. The first is concerning the communication media such as communication speed and recovery performance from unexpected disconnection. The second is the user interface of the mobile terminal such as the display and the operation switch and the processing performance. The last is standardization of the method to reach and transmit the information from the car.
