How to use the XForms Tracking System

You can use the issue system as a guest, or you can log in (ask Shane for a password). Some actions are not permitted as a guest.

Creating new issues

The easiest way to create a new issue is to send a mail to xforms-issues@mn.aptest.com. This will add the mail to the issues database, and assign it a number. You will receive a reply with an ID number, and a link to your issue. Replying to this mail will update the issue with your reply.

Another method to submit an issue is to go to the issue system, and click on 'Create a new bug report'. However, all this does is send an email to the system, so you don't gain much.

New issues get added automatically to the 'Incoming' folder.

Someone should be assigned the task of keeping an eye on the 'editors' mail list and forwarding issues to it (preferably redirecting, so that the issue has the From: field of the submitter).

Dealing with new issues

Go to the tracking system; there you will see a list of folders. Click on Incoming, and there will be a list of as-yet-unclassified issues, listed with ID, Title and so on. Click on the ID to see the issue.

You will see that an issue has a State, a Resolution, a User Position, and can be moved to a different folder. The first thing that should be done is to move it somewhere. If it is spam or other rubbish, move it to Trash; otherwise move it to a folder that properly classifies it. You can create new folders at the top level. Typically a good folder structure is one that matches the structure of the spec.

The properties are:

State
Open: Not yet treated

Suspended: Typically waiting for some other event before it can be treated

Feedback: waiting for clarifications etc from the submitter

Needs Approval: A suggested solution has been added, which needs approval by the WG

Approved: Approved by the WG, but not yet in the spec.

Approved and Implemented: Approved and in the spec.

Resolution
None

Accept: The WG has accepted the solution to the issue

Modify and accept: The WG has accepted the premise of the issue, but made changes to the suggested solution

Finding Issues

At the top level, there is a search interface for searching on several properties. The search returns the list of folders with the number of matching issues in each folder. Clicking on these narrows you down to the matching issues in that folder.

Updating Issues

You can add notes to an issue (analysis, other information, when discussed, etc), and you can send a reply. It is good to send a reply direct from the database (but I forget why for the moment). Click on 'quote' to get a quoted version of the issue mail to reply to.
