This is one of a set of pages that explore how and if a user agent supports download of font information over the Web.

The tests on this page check whether browsers support the downloading of subsetted .eot fonts using the @font rule, particularly for complex script support. The fonts used all have permissions set to "Installable embedding allowed" or "Editable embedding allowed". Some of the text used for testing relies on the availability of operating system support for complete rendering. In some cases, two fonts are tested for each piece of text, in the hope to cross-check for font-specific issues.

The text chosen covers a number of typical features occuring in complex fonts. The reference graphics use ellipses to indicate key areas to check, but there may be additional differences.

Note: When reporting results of this test, you need to also report which version of Uniscribe, Pango, Core Text or other rendering software is being used with your user agent.

1 Alphabetic script (Georgian)

Assertion: The UA supports alphabetic characters in the Georgian script when using @font-face to download a subsetted EOT BGP Ucnobi U font - a TrueType font with no GPOS or GSUB OpenType features.

The @font-face declaration links to a Georgian font. This script is alphabetic and should present no significant difficulties.

1 Alphabetic scripts (Armenian 1)

Assertion: The UA supports alphabetic characters in the Armenian script when using @font-face to download a subsetted EOT Arian AMU font - a TrueType font with GPOS or GSUB OpenType features that are not used in this text..

The @font-face declaration links to an Armenian font. This script is alphabetic and should present no significant difficulties.

3 Complex scripts (Khmer 1)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Khmer when using @font-face to download the Khmer OS Battambang font.

The @font-face declaration links to a Khmer font. This is a complex script. Key features to check for include transformation of coeng plus following consonant to form subscript consonants, ligature of pho and following vowel sign, correct placement of vowel signs above, to the left and around base consonants.

4 Complex scripts (Khmer 2)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Khmer when using @font-face to download the Khmer Mool font.

This test checks a second Khmer font with the same text.

5 Complex scripts (Hindi 1)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Hindi when using @font-face to download the Chandas font.

The @font-face declaration links to a Devanagari font. This is a complex script. Key features to check for include alignment of the hanging baseline, reorganization of glyphs and ligatures in conjunct syllables with vowel signs, left-positioned vowel signs, half-glyph forms in conjuncts, and multiple diacritics on a single base character.

6 Complex scripts (Hindi 2)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Hindi when using @font-face to download the Uttara font.

This test checks a second Devanagari font with the same text.

7 Shaping scripts (Arabic 1)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Arabic when using @font-face to download the Arabic Typesetting font.

The @font-face declaration links to an Arabic font. This is a complex script. Key features to check for include contextual shaping of joining forms, relative placement of multiple diacritics on a single base character, adjacent characters that join above the baseline, and ligatures.

8 Shaping scripts (Arabic 2)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Arabic when using @font-face to download the Scheherazade font.

This test checks a second Arabic font with the same text.

9 Shaping scripts (Urdu)

Assertion: The UA supports complex script features in Urdu when using @font-face to download the Nafees Nastaleeq font.

The @font-face declaration links to an Arabic font designed for Urdu. This is a complex script that uses more OpenType features than a typical Arabic script. Key features to check for include the diagonal baseline, and the ligated forms of the nastaliq script.

10 Mixed scripts (Thai, Tibetan, and Myanmar)

Assertion: The UA supports the complex scripts Thai, Tibetan and Myanmar all in a single paragraph when using @font-face to download the Garuda, Tibetan Machine Uni, and Myanmar3 fonts.
