I18N Tests: Automatic font assignment for CJK text

When no other styling is specified, some user agents automatically choose a different font for the display of Unicode text in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean, depending on the setting of the lang/xml:lang attribute. Tests on this page seek to show whether that is the case for the user agent where this page is displayed.

The test is written in XHTML 1.0 and served as text/html.

Note: This behaviour is not specified in the HTML specification.

Note: The test assumes that recognizably different default fonts are assigned in the browser's font preferences for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (so that you can tell the difference). Some user agents also allow for a distinction between Traditional Chinese for Taiwan and Hong Kong, in which case different fonts should be applied for each. The same font should be applied to the serif and sans-serif settings, to eliminate noise from the overall page setting.

The first line below is marked up as <p>雪</p>. Each subsequent line is marked up as <p lang="xxx" xml:lang="xxx">雪</p> where 'xxx' is shown after the Han character.

Ensure, where possible, that different default fonts are assigned for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong), Japanese, and Korean in your user agent options. The type the name of the font set into each of the following form fields (JavaScript required). As you remove focus from the input field, it will provide a reference glyph for comparison.
