Test results: list-style-type set to lower-greek

These tests check whether and how a user agent displays list numbering when the CSS list-style-type property is set to lower-greek.

No information is given in CSS 2.1 about expectations for rendering other than this should be "Lowercase classical Greek".

The CSS3 Lists module, on the other hand, provides a detailed algorithm for lower-greek. The expected results for the tests are based on this algorithm.

Summary & conclusions

See the results below for user agents tested. This section summarizes the results of those tests.

Three of the four browsers tested (Firefox, Opera and Safari) supported lower-greek rendering of list-style-type. Firefox and Opera support the algorithm correctly, but Safari has a bug that occurs in some ranges after the 576th list item.

Latest results

These are results for the latest versions of each browser tested.

lower-greek

UA version date OS Results
IE 7 20070801 Win

No support at all. All numbers rendered as European digits.

Firefox 2.0.0.6 20070801 Win

Numbering is as for lower-greek in CSS3 Lists module as of date of test.

Opera 9.21 20070801 Win

Numbering is as for lower-greek in CSS3 Lists module as of date of test.

Safari 3.0.2 20070801 Win

Numbering is as for lower-greek in CSS3 Lists module as of date of test, except for one bug. A non-final ω is represented as a Z preceded by a too early increment to its left, eg. the sequence ψω, ωα, ωβ becomes ψω, αZα, αZβ. Note that this bug only first occurs after the 576th list item, so it is not likely to appear often.
