Setting up the Network configuration

You must do this before you can have any contact outside your machine. With the Workspace manager, start the NetManager application in the NextAdmin folder. Set the fields to the following values:
Network Type:
Non-netinfo network
Hostname:
(the name of your machine)
Configuration Server:
No, (unless you really want to start a new cluster.)
Address:
Get an internet address allocated for your machine by John Gamble/CN. Put it here in decimal separated by dots, eg 128.141.1.100
Netmask:
Change this to 255.255.0.0 (gets over software bug which sets it to 255.255.255.0 if set to "automatic")
Broadcast Address:
Change this to 128.141.0.0
Router:
Change this to 128.141.200.10
Yellow Pages Domain Name:
None
You must then set up the configuration file for the internet host name service, to be able to use the name servers. This will incidentally give you access to the mail router. Make a file /etc/resolv.conf containing the following lines: ; ; Data file for a client. ; domain cern.ch nameserver 128.141.200.5 nameserver 128.141.200.6 __________________________________________________________
