The Israel W3C Office is situated at the School of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI).
HUJI is Israel's oldest and most prestigious
academic institution founded in 1925, with a board that included Einstein,
Buber and many more great intellectuals. Its CSE School was started in 1969
in the Math Department and developed in a world class research institution.
It was a pioneer in the old internet and in open software usage, running the
first e-mail service in 1980, after installing Unix in 1976. Its students
have a strong impact on the local industry, being the CEOs, founders or CTOs
of many world internet companies.
The office is headed by Prof M. Bercovier who also runs the
Visual Graphics/Cad lab at the School. He has also a strong record of
involvment with the software industry (founding chairman of ExLibris/Aleph
among others).
