License on An SVG Primer for Today's Browsers

Acquisition of Rights from David P. Dailey in view of the publication of An SVG Primer for Today's Browsers by W3C.

1. The Parties

This License Agreement is entered into and is effective as of the date of its last signature (the Effective Date) by and between David P. Dailey (hereafter David Dailey), Department of Computer Science, Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA 16057, USA and the World Wide Web Consortium (hereafter W3C) as hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), and Keio University (W3C Hosts), the registered offices of which are at 32 Vassar Street, Room 32-G515 Cambridge, MA 02139 USA; 2004, route des Lucioles BP 93, 06902 Sophia-Antipolis Cedex, FRANCE; and 5322 Endo, Fujisawa, Kanagawa 252-8520, JAPAN, respectively.

2. The Object

Object of this contract is a book written by David Dailey with the title An SVG Primer for Today's Browsers including all annexes and parts (hereafter the SVG book) David Dailey hereby asserts that he is the only author of the SVG book. David Daily also vouches that he has all rights necessary to contribute the SVG book in a way that does not violate copyright, patent, and trademark rights; contractual obligations, or libel and export control regulations.

3. The License

3.1 Exclusive License

David Dailey hereby grants W3C a royalty free world wide exclusive right and license to copy, publish, represent, reproduce, sublicense, create derivative works, translate and use the SVG book in whole or in part in any and all forms of media, now or hereafter known for any purpose.

3.2 Retention of certain rights

David Dailey retains the right to

  1. reuse any portion of the work, without fee, in future works of David Dailey's own, including books, lectures and presentations in all media.
  2. post author-prepared versions of the SVG book in a personal collection on his own Home Page and on a publicly accessible server of his employer.
