"li element whose parent is an ol or ul element listitem role Role must be either listitem, menuitemcheckbox, menuitemradio, option, tab, treeitem or presentation" it allows menuitemcheckbox and menuitemradio, there appears no goor reason why it should not allow menuitem as well.
