Position Paper for "Television and the Web" Workshop Tatsuya Hagino (hagino@w3.org), W3C Keio Team W3C is currently proposing to make an interest group for mobile access as a result of having the W3C Workshop on Mobile Access in April 1998. Because mobile terminals (mobile Web clients) have different characteristics with respect to network and/or user interface from those of traditional Web access equipment, mobile Web access environment such as application formats and protocols should be considered to access the same Web contents. Various products and services have been sold and started, and are planned based on various specifications which are not interoperable, so guidelines and/or specifications for mobile Web access are needed urgently. The work must be done by W3C to guarantee interoperability with the general Web world. I am expected to be a chairman of the Mobile Access IG. Television also has a lot of different characteristics from ordinary PCs, so there might be some common interest between TV and Mobile.
