<clown> agenda: this

<scribe> scribe: joanie

(Joanie) AX API mapping issues and testing (weekly checkin)

JD: I am still working on mapping issues and testable statements, mainly fixing testable statements, finding issues (such as the roledescription of "status" being "application status" -- and not "status", as is in the Core AAM -- in Safari as far back as at least 2012.
... I am filing issues in github against Core AAM and providing patches when time permits. Joseph has been reviewing these and providing feedback and/or committing them as appropriate.
... Because of this work, along with the ATTA development, I've not yet gotten to the implementation work.

(Group digs a bit more into the status roledescription issue)

JS: Looking at the test case (URL pasted above), Mona Heath passed the test with the following note: "AXRoleDescription is 'application status'"
... That is not a pass.
... It looks to me like it always should have been "application status"

JD: I will do a pull request after this meeting to fix status.

JS: Or you can just let me do it.

<clown> ACTION: Joseph to correct the AXRoleDescription for role="status" to be "application status", not "status". [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2017/04/18-aapi-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-2137 - Correct the axroledescription for role="status" to be "application status", not "status". [on Joseph Scheuhammer - due 2017-04-25].

JD: Sure!

<clown> action-2137?

<trackbot> action-2137 -- Joseph Scheuhammer to Correct the axroledescription for role="status" to be "application status", not "status". -- due 2017-04-25 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/WAI/ARIA/track/actions/2137

JS: I guess this is not merely editorial.

JD: It is not. In fact, if memory serves me, Google Chrome Canary has what's in the Core AAM. I'll email Dominic with an explanation.

JS: I've given myself an action.
... So this is an ARIA 1.1 change, even though it was true/in place/implemented in 1.0.

Joseph's Departure

JS: Next week is the last time I will be running these meetings.

Group: This sucks.

JS: It looks like Joanie is probably going to become editor of the Core AAM.
... And Rich will probably chair these meetings.

RS: (Groans)

Group: Laments lack of time employers permit us all to spend on this work.

(All) Level of detail in UIA mappings.

<clown> https://github.com/w3c/aria/pull/552

JS: Bogdan has given me a pull request.
... I've already reviewed it once, providing grammar and spelling suggestions.

<clown> https://rawgit.com/boggydigital/aria/patch-3/core-aam/core-aam.html#uia-ui-automation

JS: He's already done those changes.
... I just put a URL in for his new text.
... Personally I think it's very good.
... If we accept this, he will then go on and tweak the tables, etc.
... He wants confirmation that we like what he's done so far.

RS: I think this is fine.

JS: The last paragraph begins with "Note:"

RS: You want the styling for notes added?

JS: Actually I want the "Note:" removed.

JD: Point of clarification, is this text stating that the getters will all work and are independent of, say, interfaces/patterns?

JS: That is my understanding.

JD: Then I'm good.

(All) Various pull requests for fixes to Core-AAM

JS: There were a number of pull requests last week, mostly from Joanie.
... I've dealt with most of them.
... Joanie has closed most of them since I've merged the changes.
... There was also an editorial change, to add "Implement" in front of a number of mappings.
... I just pushed that before the meeting.
... Another change that Joanie provided a fix for was to change the subrole of group role in AXAPI.
... We'll need a test for that.

JD: I thought we might get that "for free" from another test where the role is AXGroup.
... But that's not the case.
... We can add a new test case to the Core AAM section on testable statements.

JS: Lastly, Joanie opened a new issue regarding aria-orientation.
... And I had a question about that.

<clown> https://github.com/w3c/aria/issues/560

JS: The URL above is for the issue Joanie opened.
... To summarize, between ARIA 1.0 and 1.1, the default value of aria-orientation changed from horizontal to undefined.

https://www.w3.org/wiki/ARIA_1.1_Testable_Statements#aria-orientation

JD: At the above link, there's a list of all the changes (though I believe scrollbar was vertical in 1.0, but ignoring that....)

JS: Do we need to add all these to the Core AAM?

Group: Agreement that we remove "default" from horizontal. We add a table for undefined (not mapped for all platforms). We mark it 1.1. Is that it?

JD: I'd also remove "scrollbar" (if that's the role) that is shown in Core AAM's "vertical" mapping.

<clown> https://rawgit.com/w3c/aria/master/core-aam/core-aam.html#authorErrorDefaultValuesTable

JS: Is aria-orientation required for scrollbar?

JD: I *think* so.

JS: Then it would need to have an entry in the errors section.
... It all depends on whether it is required or not.

https://rawgit.com/w3c/aria/master/aria/aria.html#scrollbar

BG: Because it says there is an implicit value, that suggests that functionally it is required.

JS: I will go through each of these roles, and if it's not in the "required" states and properties of the ARIA spec, I will not add it to the errors section of the Core AAM.

<clown> ACTION: joseph to remove the current aria-orientation default value, and add mapping for aria-orientation is undefined, and modify the default-values-for-required-attributes author errors table as needed. [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2017/04/18-aapi-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-2138 - Remove the current aria-orientation default value, and add mapping for aria-orientation is undefined, and modify the default-values-for-required-attributes author errors table as needed. [on Joseph Scheuhammer - due 2017-04-25].
