<HadleyBeeman> action-13?

Let’s start with the action-13

<HadleyBeeman> trackbot, start meeting

<trackbot> Date: 25 April 2014

<Caroline> Yaso: I have talked with Vitor Batista and he gave me information about the use cases

action-13 closed

<trackbot> Closed action-13.

<HadleyBeeman> action-20?

<trackbot> action-20 -- Bernadette Farias Loscio to Document the situations/scenarios for the data usage vocab in the ucr -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

action-20

<trackbot> action-20 -- Bernadette Farias Loscio to Document the situations/scenarios for the data usage vocab in the ucr -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/track/actions/20

I’ve been working on this

BernadetteLoschio: I ‘m discussing with my students

…if we can have an app that collects information about apps that uses open data

… kind of an extension to ckan, we can have information about data usage, about apps, something like this

… we are working on something like this and we’re looking for someone that has info about vocabs

<Ig_Bittencourt> http://www.opendata500.com/list/

ig_bittencourt: they have description of 5 hundreds of companies using open data

<Ig_Bittencourt> http://www.hydra-cg.com/spec/latest/core/

… they are just for describing API’s, but it can be a good start

BernadetteLoscio: this gonna be very helpful. We want to develop an extension to CKAN

… feedback is welcome

HadleyBeeman: what do the rest of the group thinks about that?

<deirdrelee> +q

BernadetteLoscio: we are just starting, so we don’t have an implementation yet

<MarkHarrison> Eric_Kauz and I have tried to put in quite a lot of detail about scenarios in our GS1 Digital use case we submitted recently

deirdreelee: ... there’s some papers that describes vocabs

… i’ll put some links for the papers

<laufer> http://www.programmableweb.com

laufer: this is a link for a site that has a thousand apps

… some of them use open data so you can find more information about it here

bernadetteLoscio: thank you :-)

<HadleyBeeman> http://www.w3.org/2013/05/lcsv-charter

hadleyBeeman: the Csvwg has 2 deliverables

… I would encourage you to talk to them and see if they have something that can help you

BernadetteLoscio: I need to write something about because we’re discussing how we can describe apps

<deirdrelee> Related paper from W3C PMOD http://www.w3.org/2012/06/pmod/pmod2012_submission_11.pdf

<ericstephan> http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/WD-csvw-ucr-20140327/

ericstephan: open data brings many issues to us, but we have to talk about other types of data

ericstephan, can you help me describe your action, pls?

<MakxDekkers> zakim mute me

<MTCarrasco> One URI, many variants, human and machine readable, XML or CVS just variants

BernadetteLoscio: no matter if it is open data or not. We’re using CKAN because it’s a way to collect this info

… we can try to extract the information, and see if we can put this info in a vocabulary. It’s not just open data, but we need a starting point

Steve: I thing we had this discussion once before

<MTCarrasco> Linked Data vs. Linked Open Data: just a legal matter - http://www.w3.org/DesignIssues/LinkedData.html

adler1: when I think about Open Data vs data on the web

… are we talking about that our standard could be applied to any kind of data, just like DCAT

… DCAT can apply to a lot of standards

<HadleyBeeman> +1 to being concerned about scope creep

<ericstephan> thank you for the clarification adler1_ :-)

<deirdrelee> DCAT does not just apply to Open Data, but it does specifically apply to data catalogues

adler1: we developed this for open data, but anyone can use it

… I don’t know if there’s an formal way to do that

… It will be terrific to include use cases

MTCarrasco: we should be concerned about technical aspects of linked data

… when should address LINKED DATA, not LINKED OPEN DATA,

…we should adress the technical

<Ig_Bittencourt> +1 to MTCarrasco view

hadleyBeeman: I agree that we are data on the web

it includes data on the web

<MTCarrasco> "Linked Data is defined above. Linked Open Data (LOD) is Linked Data which is released under an open licence, which does not impede its reuse for free."

<Zakim> HadleyBeeman, you wanted to talk about ways to do this within w3c approaches

Laufer: I think that if we talk about data on the web

… we’re talking about resources on the web

… we have to do a metamodel of what we’re talking here

… we thing about how to publish, and how to use this

… how can we organize this in a better way. Think about the catalogs: when we see a tool like CKAN, Socrata… What is our ecosystem?

<adler1_> +1 laufer

… we have to discuss this metamodel, because we can talk about a lot of kinds of data

<MTCarrasco> Facebook type of data are mostly private gardens

hadleyBeeman: I think that there’s a very common use case, but it’s important to us to not get lost

<gatemezi> +1 to Laufer. I suggest to have a first draft of such metamodel

<scribe> scribe: newton

<HadleyBeeman> scribe: hadleybeeman

<MTCarrasco> DWBP should be about web techologies that might be used for private and public data - again: open is in the legal domain

yaso: I think we have to think more simply, focus on our use cases. Think of data in JSON, CSV — not about open or not. That's just a question of licences.

<newton> yaso: we have to be more simpler to focus on UC, we had to focus on use cases that we already have

<scribe> scribe: newton

UNKNOWN_SPEAKER: data on the are resources, if some kind of resources is on the web, so we should consider technical opened, so we can download them, we can use them

<MarkHarrison> machine-readable and machine-interpretable

<yaso> scribe: yaso

<MarkHarrison> (Monika Solanki recently picked me up on 'machine-readable')

bernadetteLoscio: I’m working on this, trying to write a description of this idea

<MTCarrasco> "Structure the data: the how is secondary" - http://dragoman.org/format

<HadleyBeeman> action-21?

<trackbot> action-21 -- Deirdre Lee to Create first draft of ucr in respec -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/track/actions/21

<MTCarrasco> One can have many variants (formats) for the same data: XML, CVS. JSON, etc

<deirdrelee> http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://github.com/w3c/dwbp/blob/master/usecasesv1.html

Deirdreelee: we have an updated version of the UC doc

<HadleyBeeman> @mtcarrasco: Is it still the same data then? Philosophy question. :)

… what we have to do now is fix the html links

so, action 21 is closed

… action-22 is ongoing

action-21 closed

<trackbot> Closed action-21.

action-22 is ongoing

<HadleyBeeman> action-23?

<trackbot> action-23 -- Bernadette Farias Loscio to Look up requirements documents for vocabularies such as prov-o, data cube, skos -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/track/actions/23

BernadetteLoscio: that action is something that I’m doing with my students

… we can have other vocabs for the best practices

… so this action is still ongoing

HadleyBeeman: should we create a separate action to...

BernadetteLoscio: this action is related to the other one

… so I think that we can close this one and let just the other one

<HadleyBeeman> action-24?

<trackbot> action-24 -- Phil Archer to Draft uml diagram for vocab(s) -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/track/actions/24

action-23 is closed

<HadleyBeeman> action-25?

<trackbot> action-25 -- Carlos Iglesias to Prepare skeleton best practice wiki pages for each emerging best practice, including its id -- due 2014-04-08 -- OPEN

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/track/actions/25

<Ig_Bittencourt> https://www.w3.org/2013/dwbp/wiki/Best_practices_table

Ig_bitterncourt: Carlos is not here, but he sent the link by e-mail

laufer: we completed this table and created all this pages, but he’s not here, so we can’t close it

… I think that he has completed the work

<laufer> not me, yaso

<laufer> carlos done it

<gatemezi> FYI, just seen this paper regarding daQ ontology at WWW conf, http://events.linkeddata.org/ldow2014/papers/ldow2014_paper_09.pdf

ss we/he

<gatemezi> It seems relevant for our work

<scribe> ACTION: Ericstephan to write some other examples that are no open data [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2014/04/25-dwbp-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-28 - Write some other examples that are no open data [on Eric Stephan - due 2014-05-02].

<ericstephan> Thank you for catching that yaso!

ericstephan: :-)

<adler1_> actions are good

HadleyBeeman: what makes the time more useful

adler1: i like the action items

… I think that we’re talking about the scope, and somehow we have to connect the action items with that conversation

<laufer> http://bio2rdf.org/

laufer: we have to think about data that it’s not open, so I want to include an action to include a better description of the use of RDF

… we can’t exclude linked data, nor open dta

<deirdrelee> +1

<scribe> ACTION: laufer to describe a new use case for http://bio2rdf.org/ [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2014/04/25-dwbp-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-29 - Describe a new use case for http://bio2rdf.org/ [on Carlos Laufer - due 2014-05-02].

Ig_Bitterncourt: I agree with adler1

… we have to produce a lot of material

… perhaps when Carlos Iglesisas close his action, we could go foward the challenges

<MarkHarrison> Many of the examples on http://bio2rdf.org show the unfortunately classic symptoms of 'server offline', 'resource not found' etc. that currently hinders Open Data and reliance upon it

… I think during the F2f, one of the action was to create a skeleton of the vocab

deirdreelee: I think that discussions that follows the current actions

… maybe quite flat discussions

… so I think upcoming actions can help the process

HadleyBeeman: that’s a helpful point. I agree with that

<Zakim> Vagner_Br, you wanted to say we should spend more time to discuss about a few use cases examples in order to have clear model of describing use cases

Vagner_br: Deidreelee already said what I was going to say

<BernadetteLoscio> thank you Hadley ;)

<MarkHarrison> bye

<laufer> bye

<BernadetteLoscio> tchau!!!

<gatemezi> bye

<laufer> -laufer
