Update next topic - https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/tracker/actions/53

<shadi> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-rd/2014Mar/0017.html

<shadi> I will be updating the Wiki with a draft CFP before heading to CSUN next week.

Upcoming catalogue topics https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/tracker/actions/52

<shadi> https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Virtual_Reality_Technologies

<shadi> https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Augmented_Reality_/_Internet_of_Things

shadi: let' go throught the topics quickly to discuss

<markel> fine

<annika> +1

<Peter_Thiessen> sure

<Justin> +1

<Yehya> +1

<shadi> [[Virtual Reality usually refers to a simplistic, artificially created computer aided reproduction of a real world or real world like scene. Virtual reality allows a practical technology for clinical medicine, psychiatry, surgical planning and telemedicine amongst others. VR offers the creation of controlled and dynamical 3D scenes which allows the recording and measurement of behavioral response of the user. The outcome can be used for various means of assessment, f

<shadi> or rehabilitation and for training.]]

<Peter_Thiessen> +1

<annika> "Virtual reality allows a practical technology for clinical medicine, psychiatry, surgical planning and telemedicine amongst others." This sentence is very much focused on medical applications. Isn't this too narrow?

<Yehya> done.

<Peter_Thiessen> good

annika: I think the description is too much focusesd on medical applications...

markel: first impression... there are two things ... one is virtual relity and one is virtual world

<markel> electronic edition @ acm.org

<markel> http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?doid=1414471.1414504

makel: there's a paper that describes an accessible virtual world

markel: they might be interesting resources to use to that report

shadi: I agree with annika and markel that it probably is too focused on medical applicaitons

<markel> it seems that VR is for rehabilitation purposes, that's why is focused

yehya: I think it is very relevant to e-learning too ... many learning environments use virtual worlds

<markel> This is the other reference I was missing: "Enabling the blind in virtual worlds".

<markel> http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?doid=1805986.1806016

yehya: user modelling is also relevant for eveluation of products through virtual users

shadi: sooner or later there will be overlap and relations from one topic to other..

peter: I agree that ti could be more generalised and link to other thing apart from medical applications

<Peter_Thiessen> yup :)

<shadi> https://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/wiki/Augmented_Reality_/_Internet_of_Things

<Yehya> Augmented Reality and Internet of Things are two separate topics, which may relate to each other

<shadi> Even blind people can benefit from augmented reality -> Also blind people can benefit from augmented reality

<Yehya> Internet of Things is more likely related to Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)

christos: I cannot see much of the connection with internet of things in the text

shadi: I agree... there might connections but not on the text

annika: on the virtual reality... I pointed out 2 views... one is how to make the current technology accessble
... and the other how this technology canhelp people with disabilities

shadi: we could suggest this to other subjects too...
... it might not be applicable to all subjects

annika: yes it applies more to technology related topics
... maybe we could relate more to web

<markel> but the interface on the glass might be web based

shadi: there is a connection between them and the web

christos: agree with shadi... we have to think for the web in the future

markel: many of the challnges for the web are also common for other technologies tooo

yehya: are we talking about internet of thigns or web of things?...

shadi: the difference is the same as internet and web...

yehya: ... the diffrence is the same as the traditional internet and web

shadi: and even the services can be based on other protocols other than the web

markel: we cannot understand now what technology we are using... native or web...

shadi: yes adn even more apps are now going to a hybrid approach

<annika> Here is an additional reference for this part: "information represented in written language can be communicated in a for the user more natural way, like sign language" : http://embots.dfki.de/publications.html

TPAC 27-31 October 2014, Santa Clara, http://www.w3.org/2014/11/TPAC/

shadi: just a reminder... w3c orgnises a technical plenary every year
... gathering as many people as we can from different WG
... this year it will be in Santa Clara
... there moght be an opportunity for us to arrange a meeting there...

might*

shadi: have a look and next week we can discuss more...
