Introduction

The Data Activity builds on the work of the eGovernment and Semantic Web Activities that it supersedes.

The Data Activity Coordination Group serves as an advisory forum for the Activity. This group is designed to coordinate, facilitate and (where possible) direct the efforts of other related groups to avoid duplication of effort and fragmentation by way of incompatible standards and technologies. The Coordination Group does not create standards of its own.

Related Activities

A W3C Activity is a set of closely related working groups, interest groups and, often, projects. Those within the this Activity are listed on the Data Activity homepage. Activities are in turn grouped together into domains and the Data Activity is part of the Information and Knowledge Domain, along with the XML and Digital Publishing Activities.

All Activities within W3C are relevant — we're all working to improve and expand the usefulness of the Web (Leading the Web to its Full Potential) — but the Internationalization, Mobile and WAI Activities are all of particular relevance to Data.

Communication

The Data Activity Coordination Group is expected to meet by teleconference at least monthly unless special circumstances require additional meetings (by teleconference or face-to-face). When appropriate, the Coordination group will meet face-to-face. The Coordination Group will maintain an email archive open to W3C Members and document its activities on its wiki.

Participation

The Data Activity Coordination Group is a forum for identifying and discussing interrelationships and interdependencies among various working and interest groups chartered by the Activity. Participating members of this coordination group include chairs of these groups and representatives from related activities.

Duration

The Semantic Web Coordination Group will continue though the life of Data Activity, which is chartered through 30 July 2016.

Contact

The chair of the Coordination Group is Phil Archer <phila@w3.org>.
