Dear workshop chairs,

I'm Kazutaka Yamamoto from NTT.
I and my colleagues (Shin'ichi Yamaguchi, Taichi Kawabata) have been
working on W3C standardization activities as a member of CSS working
group.

By this mean, we are interested in not only the text layout and other
related technical issues regarding with eBooks, but also the influence
on role and way of eBooks as a result of upcoming workshop's discussion.

CSS WG specifies various internationalization rules including the layout
for vertical writing, but how they should be rendered in eBook terminals
sometimes become complex.
For example, CSS can specify italic text on vertical writings, but how
they should be rendered is a difficult problem.

We hope we could share our standardization experiences with the others
in this eBook workshop.
