Mutual authentication between a site and a user while allowing users to have multiple identities to protect their privacy is very important. Having a standard interface that provides a secure and easy way for applications to use strong authentication will go a long way toward reducing the long term problem of easily broken passwords and theft of user credentials from servers . Making this interface available in a standard way for web pages, hosted applications, and installed applications — e.g. Cordova apps — should be a goal taken by a W3C Working Group. At Intel, we are interested in ensuring that this functionality applies equally well across multiple form factors, operating systems, and application delivery methods.
