Getting on IRC

We'll be using the usual #eGov channel

Not on IRC?

• See http://www.w3.org/Project/IRC/
• Ideally use a separate client. I find Opera.com easiest to use.
• Alternatively, just point your browser to http://irc.w3.org/

Scribe Rota

We use IRC to:

• record the minutes of meeting in real time (hence scribe rota);
• record action items, issues etc.;
• manage the speaker queue;
• there are various special commands that we can learn as we go along …
• but some are really important.

Key IRC commands

• q+ to add yourself to the queue (and q- to remove yourself from it;
• /me to make a comment that won't be recorded in the minutes.

An IG Can

• publish Notes;
• set up task forces;
• recommend standards work be begun.

An IG cannot

• develop standards/Recommendations.
