Tools we'll be using for helping manage the group

IRC

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time Internet chat or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication and data transfers via private message.

We use channel #owl on the IRC server irc.w3.org, port 6665

For W3C members, there is a web based chat client at http://www.w3.org/2001/01/cgi-irc

Firefox users can get a useful addon called chatzilla at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16

Zakim

Zakim is the teleconference bridge and associated software for managing it. Call in numbers are:

  • +1.617.761.6200 (Cambridge, MA)
  • +33.4.89.06.34.99 (Nice, France)
  • +44.117.370.6152 (Bristol, UK)

On IRC, Zakim responds to various helpful commands. For more information see:

Google Calendar

The Google calendar we'll use is called owlwg. You can add it to your google calendar by clicking the "search public calendars button" when viewing your calendar, searching for "owlwg" and clicking on the result link. Or you could try clicking here. It would be helpful if you could accept the recurring meeting, but decline specific meetings that you don't plan to attend.

Tracker

Tracker is an issue, action and resolution tracking tool for W3C Working Groups, with Web, IRC and email interfaces. The most important design goal was to be as simple as possible in order to let the Working Groups concentrate on what they do best: the creation of long and boring specifications! For more information see http://www.w3.org/2005/06/tracker/

Wiki

This page is hosted on a wiki. A wiki is a medium which can be edited by anyone with access to it, and provides an easy method for linking from one page to another. The wiki we use is called MediaWiki, the same one that is used by Wikipedia. Almost every page on a wiki, including this one, has a link called "edit" which lets you edit the contents. In our wiki, that link is near the top of the page, on a little tab.

We're still getting this wiki in to shape. Some pages to know about are:
