Forms Task Force Charter (PROPOSAL) $Revision: 1.1 $ of $Date: 2007/10/12 09:05:32 $ INTRODUCTION XForms allows separating the user interface and presentation from the logic and model, allowing the same form to be used on a wide variety of devices such as voice browsers, handhelds, desktops and even paper. XForms allows much more checking and calculation to be done on the client, before the form is submitted to the server, providing the user with a much better experience, and reducing the need for repeated client-server cycles. Web Forms 2.0 builds on top of HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 in a compatible way and provides new strongly-typed input controls, extensions to existing controls to specify constraints, XML submission and initialization of forms, and other features. SCOPE The goal of the Forms Task Force is to develop a set of guidelines for architectural consistency in forms technologies. DELIVERABLES The primary deliverable of the task force is a W3C Note, published jointly by the Forms and HTML working groups and with the consensus of the members of those groups, outlining guidelines for architectural consistency in forms technologies. The HTML WG and Forms WG are expected to evaluate their future specifications against these guidelines and report back to the Task Force. TIMELINE The Forms Task Force expects to be done by July 2008. COMMUNICATION All discussion related to the deliverable will take place on the publicly archived public-forms-tf@w3.org mailing list. PARTICIPATION To be successful, the Forms Task Force is expected to have active participation of three HTML working group members and three Forms working group members for its duration. Participants are expected to contribute 10%-15% of their working time. Participants must be nominated by the HTML and Forms working group chairs, up to a maximum of three from each working group. DECISION POLICY For a decision to carry all participants of the Forms Task Force need to agree or abstain. If any member disagrees there is no descision. Decisions are to be made in asynchronous fashion on the public mailing list unless all members are present during a meeting. If a member has not replied to a request for descision within two weeks after it was posted to the mailing list he will automatically abstain unless the member has indicated that he or she will be absent during that period. LIAISONS The Forms Task Force will communicate with the Forms WG and HTML WG to ensure that members of those groups supports the advancements made by the Forms Task Force. PATENT POLICY The Forms Task Force will operate under the same patent policy as that of the Forms and HTML WG.
