American Express Position Paper for Web Services Workshop

Overview:

American Express is investigating Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in order to leverage the costs savings that are realizable from using component-based or SOA solutions.

Web Services componentization/SOA relates to using a loosely-coupled, messaged-based model for interaction among software systems. This approach conceptually moves us towards building a repository of reusable components for various organizational and project levels.

Statement of major problem:

To facilitate rapid development and deployment of Web Services an integration framework that is highly repeatable is needed to facilitate Web Service integration in a cost effective manner. The component deliverables of this framework must be widely accepted in the financial services industry.

• B2B
• Components used by multiple internal systems

Issues/discussion points:

• Testing Web Services with Partners or between internal systems, repeatable processes
• Federated Identity, external partner security requirements
• End-to-end data encryption
• Web Service management
• Web 2.0
• REST based services
