Mistyping a URL

Alice is a customer of BobBank. Alice took typing in high school, so is just as comfortable typing in (simple) URLs as she is using bookmarks or other means to get to sites she uses. She remembers that the url is www.bobbank.com. Sometimes she mistypes it as www.bobbbank.com.

Another mistyping scenario is not remembering the URL quite right. Sometimes Alice will type in www.bob.com, forgetting that the URL is not just the brand, but is the whole name.

Discussion

There are a number of ways that phishers can lure someone. Some of them are passive, such as owning URLs that are typos or mis statements of a site they pretend to be.
