Security indicators in Opera for devices

The Opera browser is ported to several platforms. While the same browser core is used across these platforms, the user interfaces have many differences.

Special security considerations for constrained devices

Memory

Browsing the internet where most content is designed for desktop computers poses several challenges for a constrained device such as a mobile phone. Typically the download speed is lower than the one you would expect on a desktop computer with a broadband connection, and the amount of available memory might not be enough to fit a whole web page in RAM.

In the case of low memory, browsers are designed to degrade gracefully by allowing users to interact with the web page. In the less severe cases Opera will free up memory by throwing out previously cached elements, or choose not to display large certain images. In the more serious cases, a page might be only half downloaded.

In these cases security indicators might not have enough information to make a correct decision.

SSL certificates

On some devices root certificates do not match the ones you will find on other devices or desktop browsers. As a result of that, users may be warned about certificate problems on sites they frequently visit.
