Discussion of Personas

<shawn> personas: http://www.w3.org/WAI/redesign/personas

Wayne: Lets look at the personas from the WAI site redesign

Wayne: they looks like the people we are writing to in this project
... very much the persons that we wants to target

Wayne describes the personas and suggest that as an exersise give some of them a disability

<Wayne> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/

William: not sure if these personas are realistic and if the people we talk about have come to this level yet

Shawn: we need to get out of this: who are we writing this material for?

Liam: that's why I'm here the disabled personas are the ones we are writing for and not Web ...

<shawn> william's personas: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0002.html

Shawn: we can't use real persons choose another name

Shawn: how would she get to our materials

Wayne: she is not the person we write to we need to write to the persons that gets her on the web

Liam: It's impotant that we write about the accesssibility claims and how you pull out a list of links in e.g. JAWS

Shawn: She is the secondary audience to the materials to William to give to the end user

<shawn> William's persona renamed: Elaine

Wayne: We need to have things we can print out to people not yet on the web

<shawn> Helle's persona: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0001.html

<shawn> Helle: high level positions, disabled persons. I had in mind a person in a blind org

<shawn> ... they want materials to give people to show importance of Web accessibility, get them interested in this

<shawn> ... they have interest. we don't have legal pressure.

<shawn> helle: he wants materials that he can forward to other people

<shawn> ... short version on How PWD Use the Web

<shawn> ... stories of ... concrete on this is why it works & this is why it doesn't work

<shawn> william: version of business case

<shawn> helle: local disability groups have a chair supporting local gov't

<shawn> ... political instrument. guiding local authorities of accessibility issues, also on digital

<shawn> ... these groups need materials to use in this arguement/discussions

<shawn> ... PWD not very knowledgeable themselves about Web ax

<Wayne> A disabled persona is likely to cast their own accomodation to IT on every othr disabiity

<shawn> Helle: not interested/know details themselves. they are older, and get assistants to do it

William: Architectural accessibility is old legislation and lately IT has become an issue
... and these things are very new ...

<shawn> ACTION: wayne pull together personas (on one web page) [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/09/07-umtf-minutes.html#action01]

<shawn> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0011.html

Liam: Accessibility Claims and Logos -- first thoughts

Accessibility Claims and Logos -- first thoughts

<shawn> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0011.html

Liam: An ideas doc. Wants AAA, AA, etc. to become buttoms
... so that one can click on them and get an explanation on what it means..
... It will raise awareness on the use of logos and see if they actually live up to their claims and ... how to structure the way to go through the information

Doyle: going to a page with some text and graphics but no multimedia how much of the complinace calims description would I get info relevant to this page or?

Liam: More general information but with the most common things first but not specific to the page they are on

William: This seems like a lot .. where do you stop

Liam: It would grow over time
... plan to make this a teaching experience not only for the users but also to the web developers

<LiamMcGee> This is what they currently get: http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG1AAA-Conformance

William: who wil hit the AA logo and how extensive and long will this be in the next year

Wayne: It will have very common barriers described in plain language and how to get arround them

Liam: showing the text from the conformance link
... from user testing the expectations are so low so they don't even bother to look for Headers or navigation through headers

Doyle: A click through doc like a larger quick tips
... how can you limit the document

<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to ask about starting with AA only and to note that this can be written so it can be stand alone resource (not just from clicking on logo) and to ask about if

Shawn: about scope first version only AA

Liam: maybe better key items in different levels the most important first

Doyle: If the rating is powered by us can we limit the information to specific pages

Liam: more difficult

Wayne: why only AA Shawn?

Shawn: make it easier to see the difference, and because we normally suggest people doing AA but interesting to see the difference between different levels

<shawn> ACTION: liam to scope conformance claims levels [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/09/07-umtf-minutes.html#action02]

Shawn: think this should be a stand-alone to be used in other places

William: are these docs alsready in the WAI ressources

Liam: send infor if you know of excisting documents

Wayne: next week Judy will attend. We meet at 2 P.M. Boston time

scope

Wayne: Shawn what do you think we can expect that PWD wants from this group?

Shawn: wayne take our discussion from last week and prioritize

<shawn> doyle's personas: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0004.html

Doyle: this person is from own experience

Wayne: same experience in other organisations

Doyle: not as rigourous as the business case
... some bosses ned a simplified version of the business case
... people need a place/web site that easily tells them where to go for something like Ipod casting

Shawn: sounds like the application notes from WCAG how to make ...

Wayne: also like Liams how to get e.g. audio description

<shawn> ACTION: wayne take work statement list and revise/scope/prioritize based on last week's teleconference discussion [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/09/07-umtf-minutes.html#action03]

<shawn> helle's reply about compliance officers: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-wai-eo-umtf/2006Sep/0006.html

<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to ask if Helle's persona is "disability advocate"

<shawn> ACTION: william and doyle to write up disability advocate personas [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2006/09/07-umtf-minutes.html#action04]
