Compound Documents as Intelligent XML Objects

• An intelligent XML object can act as a mobile agent that contains "rules of engagement" for interacting both with the humans and, as necessary, with a service-oriented architecture (SOA).
• Rather than programming in the assembly language of the web, the XML document marshals and consolidates the resources and services needed to achieve a transactional business function.
• Viewed through the lens of today's web application model, we can see that intelligent XML objects provide value through complexity reduction.

• It turns out that this model can even be delivered to today's client deployments via auto-generated DHTML and AJAX, allowing a migration strategy for staged delivery of this conceptual model of an intelligent web.
