Discussion summary:

  1. Approve minutes from previous two meetings.

Minutes from previous two meetings approved.

  2. Review status of action items from previous meeting

In consultation with Thomas and Peter who ran the last meeting, Ken consolidated most of the action items as discussion points under agenda item 3 (see agenda for details of consolidation), moved one action item to archive status, and leaving one action to consider.

Action 1: Kathy and Peter to add citations to the reference list and link them from the fuzzy/probabilistic scenario.

    Action carried over.

  3. Define how to come up with interchange requirements for various uncertainty mechanisms.

First, Ernesto, who is new to the group, was welcomed. We clarified that our incubator group is chartered with identifying the kinds of concepts we will need to represent in order for web scale applications to process uncertainty, not writing a future UIF (Uncertainty Interchange Format) itself. Ernesto pointed out that the annotations need to have enough expressive power to distinguish between diffferent calculi to express statements such as "this model assumes multi valued logics with integer truth values". Ernesto will take a look and let us know what use-case he would like to tackle.

Mitch prepared an extended version of the uncertainty ontology. The OWL file can be found at http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/urw3/wiki/UncertaintyOntology

Peter proposed to use namespaces to identify ontology used. Ken suggested urw3: as a prefix. Authors' initials could be added (such as urw3-kjl:) if necessary.

Kathy will look at Discovery use case annotations and Peter's annotations and try to annotate Appointment Making use case. To facilitate annotation, she also suggested to put the ontology into html with named targets at each of the concepts. Others should also annotate use cases or review and comment on ones already annotated.

Peter noted the need for annotation tools. Ken suggested that the tools should be mentioned in the final report.

  4. Schedule dates for next telecons

The next telecons will be scheduled for Jan 9 and every two weeks thereafter into March.

  5. Additional items, it time allows
  6. Matthias on Springer volume:
Volume will contain the combined post-proceedings of all previous URSW workshops. We expect significantly revised and possibly extended papers from previous URSW workshops and invited papers; invited people will, in some cases, be people outside present uncertainty discussions to widen scope. Deadline for revised papers will be ~end of March. Goal is to publish in Summer 2008. Page limits: 15-18 pages; invited papers: 20-25 pages. Review will focus on constructive comments, not acceptance.

    F2F meeting:
Postponed. It could take place before summer vacation break - would be good when have conclusions of this XG to have meeting to discuss specifics plans for moving forward.

Meeting was adjourned.
