2.4 Meta-Tags Definition

A meta-tag consists of a key and a value. In the binary format, keys and values are stored in one byte each. For reference purposes "human-readable" names are listed under Meaning. These names should be used also in any API implementation on higher levels. The key 0 is not used. The value 0 is not used for any key. As a consequence, programs can use the value 0 to represent an absent key.
