Decision Meeting #1 Goal & Agenda

Goal for this Meeting

The Decision Incubator Activity is designed to enable both discussion and action. The discussion will occur using the wiki, the e-mail, and the meetings and will explore aspects (e.g. use cases, benefits, challenges, issues) of standardizing Decisions & Decision-Making. The action will be involve the development of a Decision Representation format (e.g. in XML, RDF, OWL…) available on the wiki and its use by participants in testbed settings for experiments and exercises. The rapid development and iterative evolution of a Decision representation will allow significant feedback from potential users to assist the broader discussion and will ensure that a useful, although perhaps incomplete, product will be always available. Also to optimize participant time and flexible scheduling, the majority of work will be accomplished utilizing the wiki in between meetings. Each meeting will be an opportunity to summarize progress & contributions to the wiki, review next steps and action items, and to review the current representation format. Any significant issues identified will be noted and worked on the wiki as needed.

At this first meeting for the participants, the goal is to review the proposed Incubator schedule, the outline of the final report, the need for and types of use cases, and the initial Decision components to be included in the first Decision representation format.

Agenda

(1) Review & Approve Schedule

Very draft schedule concept is provided here covering first couple months.

(2) Review & Approve Goals & Deliverables in Form of Final Report Outline

The final report outline is available on the Decisions XG Main Page. Please review and adjust as needed. If you make major edits, consider saving the current outline as Option 1 and create an outline Option 2.

(3) Assign Action Items to Produce Multiple Use Cases

A few initial use cases are in draft stage here. Just copy the source of one of the completed use cases as a template and paste into a new page and edit for your new use case.

(4) Review Initial Decision Components

Consider the initial draft suggestion for potential decision components. Please review and adjust as needed. If you make major edits, consider saving the current decision components as Option 1 and create another set as Option 2.

(5) Review Support for Linked Data

Watch the Linked Data 5 minute TED talk and consider the open gov data and the effort to create rdf-versions for dynamic integration and interoperability. Now, the challenge and opportunity is to show how the decision format we wish to create can utilize and contribute to the linked data initiative.

(6) Recommended Tools for Development

The NEON Toolkit provides useful capabilities for creating ontologies utilizing patterns. This is a significant capability which we would like to leverage for our efforts, so that our decision format can reuse existing ontology and standards work and patterns.
