SAP Research is the technology research department of SAP, engaged in applied research and development at various research centers worldwide. Targeted to establish SAP as the thought leader in the area of innovative and breakthrough information technology, SAP Research determines the business value of new technologies and introduces new technology and concepts for future solutions that will be of strategic importance to SAP and its customers. Part of SAP Research is the "Enterprise Services & Semantics" research program. This research program explores the broad research areas of service-oriented computing (including development, architecture & deployment), semantics, and more importantly their overlap - building towards the Intelligent Service-Oriented Enterprise. Currently ESS participates in two major EU Integrated Projects with a clear focus on Semantics and Interoperability - 'ATHENA' and 'DIP'. In the course of DIP the development of WSMO plays an important role. We expect from the participation in the W3C Workshop on Frameworks for Semantics in Web Services a lively discussion about current and future technology developments especially in the areas Ontologies for Semantic Web Services and Integration in Web Services Architectures. Additionally we would expect information sharing about real live development and application of Semantic Web services in Enterprise environments.
